Some Prairie Hutterite colonies, once known mainly as agricultural producers, are starting to diversify into the manufacturing and construction industries.
The CBC’s Marisa Dragani visited Decker Manufacturing, a company owned and operated by the Decker Hutterite Bretheren Colony in southwestern Manitoba.
The company’s boilers have been sold throughout North America and in Europe, and the company is making as much as $2 million in annual sales.
But the success of Decker Manufacutring is raising concerns from their competitors, who say the Hutterites have an unfair business advantage.
