Before we left for Africa we were told many times that the culture shock would be one of the big challenges that we would face. Like most people I looked forward to it in both anticipation and dread.
The first signs of having entered a different culture were obvious when I entered the Lagos airport; I was hit by the fact that there were mostly black people in the baggage pickup area. The contrast between the people living in the jungle and people living in the richer part of the cities is startling at times. After going through a rich part of the town and then going into the jungle to look at the mud huts, is like visiting another planet. I’ve had a few opportunities to visit people living in the mud huts but taking the camera along is not always easy. They don’t like it when you just take pictures and usually you’re expect....

For those of you who might someday travel to countries where malaria is a problem, you could consider taking wormwood, with a few drops of oil of oregano. Back home, they give you so many options to choose from that it’s rather confusing, but that’s what someone recommend to me and that’s all I’ve been using. A few times when I didn’t have all that much energy, the doctor did a blood test and every time he said that the malaria count was low. So it seems to work, for me anyway.
